State Level Consumer Price Index (CPI) – January 2015 to May 2015

Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures changes over time in general level of prices of goods and services that households acquire for the purpose of consumption. For construction of CPI numbers, two requisite components are weighing diagrams (consumption patterns) and price data collected at regular intervals. The data refers to State wise Consumer Price Index with base year 2010 =100.

The CPI has been increased in May 2015 as compared to January 2015 in all States and UTs except Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar Island.

Only 2 States where CPI has decreased were Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar Island during the period. CPI for Mizoram has decreased from 122.1 in January 2015 to 121.8 in May 2015 showing a decrease of 0.3 point. CPI for Andaman and Nicobar Island has decreased from 117.4 in January 2015 to 117.3 in May 2015 showing a decrease of 0.1 point.

The 5 states with highest increase in CPI were Puducherry (8.7 points), Chhattisgarh (4.6 points), Manipur (4.2 points), Jammu & Kashmir (3.9 points) and Assam (3.9 points).
