Funds Allocated to Major Rural Development Programmes during 2019-20

The Ministry of Rural Development plays an important role in the development of rural areas across the country. The vision and mission of the Ministry is sustainable and inclusive growth of rural India through a multi-pronged strategy, which includes employment generation, strengthening of livelihood opportunities, promoting self-employment, skilling of rural youths, provision of social assistance and infrastructure development in rural areas.

Total amount of Rs. 117,024 crore was allocated to major rural development programmes in India during 2019-20. The top 3 programmes with respect to funds allocated to major rural development programmes during 2019-20 were Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

The fund allocated for MGNREGS was Rs. 60,000 crore under rural development programmes during 2019-20, which accounted 51.27% of the total funds allocated to major rural development programmes in India. There was allocation of Rs. 19,000 crore for PMAY-G under rural development programmes during 2019-20. It accounted 16.24% of the total funds allocated to major rural development programmes in India during the same period. The fund allocated for PMGSY was Rs. 19,000 crore under rural development programmes during 2019-20, which accounted 16.24% of the total funds allocated to major rural development programmes in India.

During 2019-20, there was allocation of Rs. 9,024, 9,200 and 800 crore for Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee National RuRBAN Mission (SPMRM) respectively under rural development programmes.
