Top 10 States/UTs with respect to Child Care Institutes under CPS Scheme during 2019-20

For protection of children, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has implemented a centrally sponsored Child Protection Services (CPS) Scheme for supporting the children in difficult circumstances. Institutional care is provided through Child Care Institutes (CCIs), as a rehabilitative measure.

There were 1,432 CCIs under CPS scheme in India during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020), up by 2.87% against 1,392 during 2018-19. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to CCIs under CPS scheme during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020) were Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Assam.

The number of CCIs under CPS scheme was 191 in Tamil Nadu during 2018-19. It has surged by 3.66% to 198 during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020) above 2018-19. We have observed annual growth of 3.85% in CCIs under CPS scheme in West Bengal from 104 during 2018-19 to 108 during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020). The number of CCIs under CPS scheme was 101 in Odisha during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020), down by -2.88% versus 104 during 2018-19. Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Odisha accounted for 13.83%, 7.54% and 7.05% respectively of the total CCIs under CPS scheme in India during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020).

There were 100 and 81 CCIs under CPS scheme in Karnataka and Rajasthan respectively during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020). Karnataka accounted for 6.98% and Rajasthan accounted for 5.66% of the total CCIs under CPS scheme in India during 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020).

During 2019-20 (as on Feb 2020), the number of CCIs under CPS scheme was 65, 59, 54, 53 and 52 in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Assam respectively.
