To fulfill the gap between demand (requirement) and indigenous production of fertilizers, Government of India imports it. The import of Urea was 54.81 lakh metric tonne (LMT) by India in 2016-17. It has surged by 9.01% to 59.75 LMT during 2017-18 over 2016-17. We have seen annual growth of 25.21% in import of Urea to 74.81 LMT during 2018-19 above 2017-18. The import of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) was 43.85 LMT by India in 2016-17. It has declined by -3.83% to 42.17 LMT during 2017-18 above 2016-17. Annual growth of 56.56% has been observed in import of DAP to 66.02 LMT during 2018-19 over 2017-18.
We have seen annual growth of 26.77% in import of Muriate of Potash (MOP) during 2017-18 from 37.36 LMT during 2016-17. The import of MOP was 42.14 LMT by India during 2018-19, down by -11.02% versus 47.36 LMT during 2017-18. The import of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium (NPK) was 5.21 LMT by India in 2016-17. It has decreased by -4.22% to 4.99 LMT during 2017-18 against 2016-17. Annual growth of 9.42% has been found in import of NPK to 5.46 LMT during 2018-19 above 2017-18.
