As on 14th November 2019, there were 31,448,888 pending cases in district and subordinate courts in India. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to cases pending in district and subordinate courts as on 14th Nov 2019 were Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Orissa.
The number of cases pending in district & subordinate courts in Uttar Pradesh was 7,504,678 as on 14th November 2019, which accounted 23.86% of the total pending cases in district and subordinate courts in India. There were 3,760,171 pending cases in district & subordinate courts in Maharashtra as on 14/11/2019. It accounted 11.96% of the total pending cases in district & subordinate courts in India as on the same period. The number of cases pending in district and subordinate courts in Bihar was 2,839,812 as on 14.11.2019, which accounted 9.03% of the total pending cases in district & subordinate courts in India.
There were 2,275,633 and 1,654,941 pending cases in district & subordinate courts in West Bengal and Rajasthan respectively as on 14th Nov 2019. West Bengal accounted for 7.24% and Rajasthan accounted for 5.26% of the total pending cases in district and subordinate courts in India as 14/11/2019.
As on 14th November 2019, the number of cases pending in district and subordinate courts in Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Orissa was 1,604,461, 1,546,631, 1,420,511, 1,275,520 and 1,220,696 respectively.
