India has witnessed an increasing trend in both ‘capacity’ & ‘production’ of crude steel by private sector during 2013-14 to 2018-19. However we have seen compound annual growth rate of 6.23% in capacity and 6.62% in production of crude steel by private sector during the period under consideration.
Capacity of crude steel production by private sector was 86,332 tonne in India during 2013-14. It has surged by 3.58% to 89,422 tonne during 2014-15 above 2013-14. Annual growth of 2.32% has been observed in capacity of crude steel production by private sector in India to 116,804 tonne during 2018-19 against 114,156 tonne during 2017-18.
Production of crude steel by private sector was 64,916 tonne in India during 2013-14. It has spiked by 10.56% to 71,774 tonne during 2014-15 over 2013-14. The capacity utilisation in crude steel production by private sector was 75.2% in 2013-14 and 80.3% in 2014-15. We have seen annual growth of 4.9% in crude steel production by private sector in India during 2017-18 from 79,480 tonne during 2016-17. Production of crude steel by private sector was 89,427 tonne in India during 2018-19, up by 7.25% versus 83,378 tonne during 2017-18. The capacity utilisation in crude steel production by private sector was 73% and 76.6% in India during 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively.
