Cargo Traffic handled by Major Ports in India from 2014-15 to 2018-19

India has witnessed an increasing trend in cargo traffic handled by major ports from 2014-15 to 2018-19. Compound annual growth rate of 4.72% has been observed in cargo traffic handled by major ports during the period under consideration.

Cargo traffic handled by major ports was 581.34 million tonnes in 2014-15. It has increased by 4.32% to 606.47 million tonnes during 2015-16 above 2014-15. In absolute term the increase was 25.13 million tonnes during 2015-16 against 2014-15. We have seen annual growth of 4.78% in cargo traffic handled by major ports during 2017-18 from 648.4 million tonnes during 2016-17. Cargo traffic handled by major ports was 699.05 million tonnes during 2018-19, up by 2.9% versus 679.37 million tonnes during 2017-18. In absolute term the growth was 19.68 million tonnes during 2018-19 above 2017-18.

The maximum annual growth of 6.91% has been found in 2016-17 in cargo traffic handled by major ports during the period under consideration.
