Budget Allocation under MGNREGA during 2016-17 to 2018-19

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is a demand driven wage employment programme. The Ministry releases funds to the States/UTs on the basis of the agreed to Labour Budget, opening balance, pending liabilities of the previous financial year, if any, and overall performance. Fund release to States/UTs is a continuous process and Central Government is committed in making funds available keeping in view the demand for work.

We have observed annual growth of 14.41% in allocation of revised budget under MGNREGA in 2017-18 from Rs. 48220.26 crore in 2016-17. In absolute term the increase was Rs. 6946.8 crore during 2017-18 against 2016-17. The revised budget allocation under MGNREGA was Rs. 61830.09 crore during 2018-19, up by 12.08% versus Rs. 55167.06 crore during 2017-18. In absolute term the increase was Rs. 6663.03 crore during 2018-19 against 2017-18.

Maximum allocation of Rs. 61830.09 crore has been seen in 2018-19 in allocation of revised budget under MGNREGA during the period under consideration.
