Import of Silk and Silk Goods from 2013-14 to 2017-18

Despite several schemes/programmes for increasing silk production in the country, we are still importing silk and silk goods from China, Japan, Korea and other countries.

The total import of silk and silk goods was US $ 224.66 million in 2013-14. It has decreased by -112 basis points to US $ 222.14 million during 2014-15 above 2013-14. We have observed annual growth of 107 basis points in import of silk and silk goods during 2016-17 from US $ 212.17 million during 2015-16. The total import of silk and silk goods was US $ 256.39 million during 2017-18, up by 19.57% against US $ 214.43 million during 2016-17.

Out of total import of US $ 256.39 million in 2017-18; import from China, Korea RP, Japan and others was US $ 194.02 million (75.7%), US $ 0.254 million (0.1%), US $ 0.05 million (0.02%) and US $ 62.05 million (24.2%) respectively.

The maximum value of US $ 256.39 million seen in 2017-18 and minimum value of US $ 212.17 million found in 2015-16 in import of silk and silk goods during the period under consideration.
