Budget Allocation to selected Major Scientific Agencies during 2014-15 to 2018-19

The Government has been constantly engaged in the promotion and growth of scientific research in the country through various measures such as successive increase in plan allocations for scientific departments, setting up of new institutions for science education and research, creation of Centres of Excellence and Facilities in emerging and frontline areas of Science & Technology in academic and national institutions, supporting Mega Facilities for Basic Research, launching of new fellowships and schemes.

Amount of Rs. 5114.78 crore was allotted to DST during 2018-19, up by 8.21% against the allocation during 2017-18. Budget allocation to DST was Rs. 4726.71 crore during 2017-18, up by 12.08% versus Rs. 4217.08 crore during 2016-17. Annual growth of 9.94% has been observed in allocation of budget to DST during 2016-17 from Rs. 3835.7 crore during 2015-16. We have seen annual growth of 24 basis points in allocation of budget to DSIR/CSIR during 2016-17 from Rs. 4020.98 crore during 2015-16. Budget allocation to DSIR/CSIR was Rs. 4629.7 crore during 2017-18, up by 14.87% against Rs. 4030.48 crore during 2016-17. Amount of Rs. 4795.97 crore was allotted to DSIR/CSIR during 2018-19, up by 3.59% above 2017-18’s allocation.

Budget allocation to DBT was Rs. 1554.27 crore during 2015-16. It has increased by 21.95% to Rs. 1895.5 crore during 2016-17 above 2015-16. Annual growth of 19.24% has been found in allocation of budget to DBT to Rs. 2260.11 crore during 2017-18. Amount of Rs. 2411.53 crore was allotted to DBT during 2018-19, up by 6.7% versus the allocation during 2017-18. There was an allotment of Rs. 10783.42 crore to DOS during 2018-19, up by 17.78% against the allocation during 2017-18. Budget allocation to DOS was Rs. 9155.52 crore during 2017-18, up by 14.6% versus Rs. 7988.87 crore during 2016-17. Annual growth of 15.45% has been seen in allocation of budget to DOS during 2016-17 from Rs. 6920.01 crore during 2015-16.

We have seen annual growth of 3.73% in allocation of budget to DAE (R&D Sector) during 2016-17 from Rs. 4891.13 crore during 2015-16. Budget allocation to DAE (R&D Sector) was Rs. 5575.83 crore during 2017-18, up by 9.89% against Rs. 5073.79 crore during 2016-17. Amount of Rs. 5712.16 crore was allotted to DAE (R&D Sector) during 2018-19, up by 2.45% above 2017-18’s allocation. Budget allocation to MoES was Rs. 1292.45 crore during 2015-16. It has increased by 5.33% to Rs. 1361.28 crore during 2016-17 above 2015-16. Annual growth of 17.37% has been found in allocation of budget to MoES to Rs. 1597.69 crore during 2017-18. Amount of Rs. 1800 crore was allotted to MoES during 2018-19, up by 12.66% versus the allocation during 2017-18.
