The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has introduced a scheme namely “Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY)” on 1st April, 2017. The objective of the scheme is to providing Senior Citizens, belonging to BPL category and suffering from age related disabilities/ infirmities, with such physical aids and assisted living devices which can restore near normalcy in their bodily functions. Under the Scheme, assisted living devices such as Walking Sticks, Elbow Crutches, Walkers/ Crutches, Tripods/ Quadpods, Hearing Aids, Wheelchairs, Artificial Dentures and Spectacles are provided free of cost to the beneficiaries.
As on 13th December 2018, there were 68612 beneficiaries under RVY in India. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of beneficiaries under RVY as on 13-12-2018 were Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Goa.
The number of beneficiaries under RVY in Madhya Pradesh was 14939 as on 13-12-2018, which accounted 21.77% of the total beneficiaries under RVY in India. There were 7291 beneficiaries under RVY from Meghalaya as on 13th December 2018. It accounted 10.63% of the total beneficiaries under RVY in India as on the same date. The number of beneficiaries under RVY in Uttar Pradesh was 6719 as on 13-12-2018, which accounted 9.79% of the total beneficiaries under RVY in India.
There were 6343, 5402, 4210, 2760, 2637, 2605 and 2407 beneficiaries under RVY from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Goa respectively as on 13-12-2018. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Goa accounted for 9.24%, 7.87%, 6.14%, 4.02%, 3.84%, 3.8% and 3.51% respectively of the total beneficiaries under RVY in India as on 13th December 2018.
The aforementioned top 10 States/UTs accounted for 80.62% of the total beneficiaries under RVY in India as a whole as on 13th December 2018.
