The total number of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) in position was 1307576 (93.4%) in India as on 31st December 2018, out of 1399697 sanctioned by Government of India (GOI). The top 5 States/UTs with respect to AWWs in position as on 31.12.2018 were Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra.
As on 31st December 2018, there were 173713 (91.4%) AWWs in position in Uttar Pradesh, out of the sanctioned strength of 190145 by GOI. It accounted 13.29% of the total AWWs in position in India as on 31-12-2018. The number of AWWs in position was 107711 in West Bengal as on 31.12.2018, which accounted 8.24% of the total AWWs in position in India. The sanctioned strength of AWWs by GOI was 119481 for West Bengal as on 31st December 2018. There were 95728 (98.6%) AWWs in position in Madhya Pradesh as on 31-12-2018, out of the sanctioned strength of 97135 by GOI. It accounted 7.32% of the total AWWs in position in India as on 31st December 2018.
The number of AWWs in position was 95395 in Bihar and 94527 in Maharashtra as on 31st December 2018. Bihar and Maharashtra accounted for 7.3% and 7.23% respectively of the total AWWs in position in India as on 31.12.2018.
