Persons killed in Road Accidents in India from 2015 to 2017

We have observed annual decline of -1.9% in persons killed in Road Accidents in India during 2017 in comparison to 3.18% incline during 2016. The number of persons killed in Road Accidents in India was 146133, 150785 and 147913 from 2015 to 2017 respectively. The top 5 States/UTs in terms of persons killed in Road Accidents during 2017 were Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan.

The number of persons killed in Road Accidents in Uttar Pradesh was 20124 during 2017, up by 4.16% against 19320 persons killed in 2016. Annual growth of 9.36% has been seen in persons killed in Road Accidents in Uttar Pradesh during 2016 above 2015 from 17666 persons killed. Uttar Pradesh accounted for 13.61% of the total persons killed in Road Accidents in India during 2017.

There were 16157 persons killed in Road Accidents in Tamil Nadu during 2017, which accounted 10.92% of the total persons killed in Road Accidents in India during the same year. We have observed annual decline of -6.16% in persons killed in Road Accidents in Tamil Nadu during 2017 in comparison to 10.08% incline during 2016. The number of persons killed in Road Accidents in Maharashtra was 12264 during 2017. It accounted 8.29% of the total persons killed in Road Accidents in India during 2017. Annual decline of -5.19% has been found in persons killed in Road Accidents in Maharashtra during 2017 in comparison to -2.1% during 2016.

The number of persons killed in Road Accidents in Karnataka was 10856, 11133 and 10609 from 2015 to 2017 respectively. Annual decline of -4.71% has been observed in persons killed in Road Accidents in Karnataka during 2017 in comparison to 2.55% incline during 2016. The number of persons killed in Road Accidents in Rajasthan was 10444 during 2017, down by 20 basis points versus 10465 persons killed in 2016. We have observed annual decline of 43 basis points in persons killed in Road Accidents in Rajasthan during 2016 above 2015 from 10510 persons killed.

Lakshadweep is the only Union Territory among all the States/UTs in India which was found with 0 (zero) persons killed in Road Accidents during 2017.
