Percentage of Women (age 15-49 years) who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS during 2015-16 (NFHS-4)

According to NFHS-4, percentage of women (age 15-49 years) who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS was 20.9% in India in 2015-16, whereas it was 16.9% in rural areas of India and 28.1% in urban areas of India during 2015-16. According to NFHS-3, percentage of women (age 15-49 years) who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS was 17.3 % in India in 2005-06.

There were seventeen States/UTs which were seen below the national value of 20.9% women (age 15-49 years) who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS in 2015-16. Dadra and Nagar Haveli had the lowest of 9.3% women (age 15-49 years) who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS, followed by Assam, Karnataka, Bihar, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Odisha and Chattisgarh with 9.4%, 9.5%, 10.1%, 12.2%, 13.3%, 15.8%, 16%, 16%, 17.5%, 18.1%, 18.4%, 18.6%, 19%, 19.1%, 20.3% and 20.7% respectively in 2015-16.

Highest percentage of women (age 15-49 years) who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS was 66.4% found in Mizoram in 2015-16, followed by Punjab with 49.3% and Kerala with 43.1%.
