Top 10 States/UTs in terms of Multidrug resistant Tuberculosis patients notified during 2016

During 2016, there were 33820 Multidrug resistant (MDR) Tuberculosis (TB) patients notified in India. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of MDR TB patients notified in India during 2016 were Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Karnataka.

The number of MDR TB patients notified in Uttar Pradesh was 6928 during 2016, which accounted 20.48% of the total MDR TB patients notified in India. There were 6286 MDR TB patients notified in Maharashtra during 2016. It accounted 18.59% of the total MDR TB patients notified in India during the same year. The number of MDR TB patients notified in Gujarat was 2437 during 2016, which accounted 7.21% of the total MDR TB patients notified in India.

There were 2118 and 1992 MDR TB patients notified in Rajasthan and West Bengal respectively during 2016. Rajasthan and West Bengal accounted for 6.26% and 5.89% respectively of the total MDR TB patients notified in India during 2016.

The number of MDR TB patients notified in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Karnataka was 1914, 1794, 1546, 1367 and 1338 respectively during 2016. The above mentioned top 10 States/UTs accounted for 82% of the total Multidrug resistant Tuberculosis patients notified in India as a whole during 2016.
