Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from the Month of April 2004 to April 2015

Wholesale price index (current series) consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy.

The index is based on 5,482 quotations (579 for Primary articles, 72 for Fuel and Power, and 4,831 for Manufactured Products). The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2004-05 as Base Year. Primary Articles category (i.e. food articles, oil seeds, sugarcane, tobacco, minerals, crude petroleum etc.) has a weightage of 20.12 in Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The index of Primary Articles has increased from 97 in the month of April 2004 to 241.8 in the month of April 2015. It has shown total increase of 144.8 points during the period from April 2004 to April 2015. Fuel & Power category (i.e. coal, LPG, petrol, kerosene, electricity etc.) has a weightage of 14.91 in Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The index of Fuel & Power has increased from 92.8 in the month of April 2004 to 184.2 in the month of April 2015. It has shown total increase of 91.4 points during the period from April 2004 to April 2015.

Manufactured Products category (i.e. food products, sugar, tea and coffee processing, textiles, wood and wood products, paper, plastic products, chemicals, metals, machinery, electrical items, vehicles etc.) has a weightage of 64.97 in Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The index of Manufactured Products has increased from 98.6 in the month of April 2004 to 153.8 in the month of April 2015. It has shown total increase of 55.2 points during the period from April 2004 to April 2015. There was a steady decline in this index from September 2014 to April 2015.
