Top 10 States/UTs in terms of functioning of Old Age Homes under Integrated Programme for Older Persons Scheme as on 30.11.2016

Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is implementing a Central Sector Scheme of Integrated Programme for Older Persons (IPOP) under which grants-in-aid are given for running and maintenance of inter-alia, Old Age Homes, Day Care Centres, Mobile Medicare Units, Multi Facility Care Centre for Older Widows etc. The main objective of the Scheme is to improve the quality of life of Older Persons by providing basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and entertainment opportunities etc.

Implementing agencies eligible for assistance under this Scheme are Panchayati Raj Institutions/Local Bodies, Non-Governmental Voluntary Organizations, Institutions or Organizations set up by Government as autonomous/subordinate bodies, Government Recognized Educational Institutions, Charitable Hospitals/Nursing Homes, and Recognized Youth Organizations such as Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sanghathan (NYKS) and in exceptional cases the State Governments/UT administrations.

There were 428 Old Age Homes (OAH) functioning in India under Integrated Programme for Older Persons (IPOP) Scheme as on 30.11.2016, out of which 423 Old Age Homes functioning in total States and 5 Old Age Homes functioning in total Union Territories. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of number of Old Age Homes functioning under IPOP Scheme as on 30.11.2016 were: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Assam.

As on 30.11.2016, number of Old Age Homes functioning in Andhra Pradesh under IPOP scheme was 68. It accounted 15.89% of the total Old Age Homes functioning under IPOP scheme in India. As on 30.11.2016, number of Old Age Homes functioning in Karnataka under IPOP scheme was 56. It accounted 13.08% of the total Old Age Homes functioning under IPOP scheme in India. As on 30.11.2016, number of Old Age Homes functioning in Tamil Nadu under IPOP scheme was 56. It accounted 13.08% of the total Old Age Homes functioning under IPOP scheme in India. As on 30.11.2016, number of Old Age Homes functioning in Odisha under IPOP scheme was 41. It accounted 9.58% of the total Old Age Homes functioning under IPOP scheme in India. As on 30.11.2016, number of Old Age Homes functioning in Maharashtra under IPOP scheme was 34. It accounted 7.94% of the total Old Age Homes functioning under IPOP scheme in India.

These top 5 states accounted for 59.58% of the total number of Old Age Homes functioning in India under Integrated Programme for Older Persons Scheme as on 30.11.2016.

Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in West Bengal was 30 as on 30.11.2016, accounted 7.01% of the total Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in India. Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in Telangana was 22 as on 30.11.2016, accounted 5.14% of the total Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in India. Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in Uttar Pradesh was 22 as on 30.11.2016, accounted 5.14% of the total Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in India. Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in Manipur was 19 as on 30.11.2016, accounted 4.44% of the total Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in India. Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in Assam was 18 as on 30.11.2016, accounted 4.21% of the total Functioning of Old Age Homes under IPOP scheme in India.

The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 85.51% of the total number of Old Age Homes functioning in India under Integrated Programme for Older Persons Scheme as on 30.11.2016.
