Top 10 States/UTs in Consumer Price Index (CPI) as of December 2015

Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures changes over time in general level of prices of goods and services that households acquire for the purpose of consumption. For construction of CPI numbers, two requisite components are weighing diagrams (consumption patterns) and price data collected at regular intervals. The data refers to State wise Consumer Price Index with base year 2010 =100. The top 5 states/UTs with highest CPI (Rural and Urban combined) as of December 2015 were: Daman and Diu, Meghalaya, Tripura, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

CPI for Daman and Diu was 134.9 in December 2015. It increased from 122.7 in January 2015 showing an increase of 12.2 points in CPI during the period from January 2015 to December 2015. Thus Daman and Diu not only had the highest CPI of 134.9 as of December, 2015; but also it had the maximum increase of 12.2 points in CPI during the year 2015. CPI for Meghalaya was 133.8 in December 2015. It increased from 125.1 in January 2015 showing an increase of 8.7 points in CPI during the period from January 2015 to December 2015. CPI for Tripura was 133 in December 2015. It increased from 126.8 in January 2015 showing an increase of 6.2 points in CPI during the period from January 2015 to December 2015.

CPI for Karnataka was 131 in December 2015. It increased from 122.5 in January 2015 showing an increase of 8.5 points in CPI during the period from January 2015 to December 2015. CPI for Andhra Pradesh was 130.9 in December 2015. It increased from 120.1 in January 2015 showing an increase of 10.8 points in CPI during the period from January 2015 to December 2015.

The other 5 states/UTs among the top 10 states/UTs with highest CPI as of December 2015 were: Pondicherry with CPI of 130.4 in December 2015 showing an increase of 9.7 points in CPI from January 2015; Chhattisgarh with CPI of 130.2 in December 2015 showing an increase of 9.3 points in CPI from January 2015; Nagaland with CPI of 130.2 in December 2015 showing an increase of 7.7 points in CPI from January 2015; Orissa with CPI of 130.1 in December 2015 showing an increase of 9.8 points in CPI from January 2015 and Bihar with CPI of 129.1 in December 2015 showing an increase of 6.4 points in CPI from January 2015.
