Top 10 States/UTs with respect to Skill Candidates Trained under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission during 2017-18

The Government has implemented Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) in the statutory towns with the aim to reduce poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in an appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis.

There were 401,654 and 264,512 skill candidates trained under DAY-NULM in India during 2016-17 and 2017-18 respectively. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to skill candidates trained under DAY-NULM during 2017-18 were Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat and Punjab.

The number of skill candidates trained in Jharkhand was 47,567 under DAY-NULM during 2017-18, up by 13.68% against 41,842 during 2016-17. We have seen annual decline of -37.79% in skill candidates trained under DAY-NULM in Andhra Pradesh from 53,962 during 2016-17 to 33,569 during 2017-18. The number of skill candidates trained in Maharashtra was 30,959 under DAY-NULM during 2016-17. It has spiked by 7.36% to 33,237 during 2017-18 above 2016-17. Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra accounted for 17.98%, 12.69% and 12.57% respectively of the total skill candidates trained under DAY-NULM in India during 2017-18.

During 2017-18, there were 26,818 and 21,223 skill candidates trained under DAY-NULM in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh respectively. West Bengal accounted for 10.14% and Madhya Pradesh accounted for 8.02% of the total skill candidates trained under DAY-NULM in India during 2017-18.

The number of skill candidates trained in Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat and Punjab was 16,169, 15,530, 13,877, 8,680 and 7,410 respectively under DAY-NULM during 2017-18.

These above mentioned top 10 States/UTs accounted for 84.71% of the total skill candidates trained under DAY-NULM in India as a whole during 2017-18.
