With an objective to enable every rural household to have access to potable water, Government of India has launched Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), which aims at providing functional household tap connections to every rural household by 2024 at service level of 55 litre per capita per day (LPCD). The top 10 States/UTs with respect to allocation of funds under JJM during 2019-20 were Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
The amount of Rs. 1,390.37 crore was allocated for Uttar Pradesh under JJM during 2019-20, which accounted 14.48% of the total allocation of funds under JJM in India. There was allocation of Rs. 910.82 crore for West Bengal under JJM during 2019-20. It accounted 9.49% of the total funds allocated under JJM in India during the same period. The fund allocated was Rs. 856.47 crore for Rajasthan under JJM during 2019-20, which accounted 8.92% of the total allocation of funds under JJM in India.
There was allocation of Rs. 741.66 and 690.55 crore for Bihar and Maharashtra respectively under JJM during 2019-20. Bihar accounted for 7.73% and Maharashtra accounted for 7.19% of the total funds allocated under JJM in India during 2019-20.
During 2019-20, the funds allocated under JJM was Rs. 679.26, 465.49, 444.69, 317.85 and 304.82 crore for Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu respectively.
