Top 10 States/UTs with respect to Fund Allocated under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme during 2017-18 (up to 28.02.2018)

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is implementing Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) which is a major credit-linked subsidy programme aimed at generating self-employment opportunities through establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector by helping traditional artisans and unemployed youth. Any individual above 18 years of age is eligible for this programme.

An amount of Rs. 100449 lakh was allocated in India under PMEGP during 2017-18 (up to 28.02.2018), down by -9% versus Rs. 110000 lakh during 2016-17. Whereas it was Rs. 109306 lakh during 2014-15 and Rs. 128620.3 lakh during 2015-16. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of allocation of fund under PMEGP during 2017-18 (up to 28.02.2018) were Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Odisha.

Fund allocated was Rs. 11157.41 lakh under PMEGP to Uttar Pradesh during 2017-18, which accounted 11.1% of the total fund allocated in India under PMEGP. There was allocation of Rs. 7587.04 lakh to Madhya Pradesh under PMEGP during 2017-18. It accounted 7.6% of the total fund allocated in India under PMEGP during the same period. Fund allocated was Rs. 5653.09 lakh under PMEGP to Bihar during 2017-18, which accounted 5.6% of the total fund allocated in India under PMEGP. An amount of Rs. 12981.52, 8527.32 and 6909.77 lakh was allocated to Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar respectively under PMEGP during 2016-17.

There was allocation of Rs. 5355.56 lakh to Maharashtra and Rs. 5351.99 lakh to Assam under PMEGP during 2017-18. Maharashtra and Assam accounted for 5.3% each of the total fund allocated in India under PMEGP during the same period.

Allocation of fund was Rs. 4909.26, 4909.26, 4760.5, 4611.73 and 4462.97 lakh to Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Odisha respectively under PMEGP during 2017-18. These above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 58.5% of the total fund allocated in India as a whole under PMEGP during 2017-18 (up to 28.02.2018).
