Top 10 states in terms of funds released under National Afforestation Programme during 2015-16

The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change has two Centrally Sponsored afforestation Schemes (CSS) for environment protection, namely National Afforestation Programme (NAP) Scheme and the Green India Mission (GIM) for afforestation and eco-restoration of degraded forests and adjoining landscapes with participatory approach.

In total funds released under National Afforestation Programme (NAP) during 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 (till 12.12.2016) was Rs. 257.62 Crores, Rs. 243.78 Crores, Rs. 94.16 Crores, Rs. 30.8 Crores respectively. The top 10 States in terms of funds released under NAP during 2015-16 were: Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Punjab, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tripura, Bihar, Manipur and West Bengal.

Funds released under NAP in Odisha was Rs. 14.9 Crores during 2015-16. It accounted for 15.82% of the total funds released under NAP during 2015-16. Funds released under NAP in Chhattisgarh was Rs. 10.2 Crores during 2015-16. It accounted for 10.83% of the total funds released under NAP during 2015-16. Funds released under NAP in Mizoram was Rs. 10.17 Crores during 2015-16. It accounted for 10.8% of the total funds released under NAP during 2015-16. Funds released under NAP in Punjab was Rs. 9.49 Crores during 2015-16. It accounted for 10.08% of the total funds released under NAP during 2015-16. Funds released under NAP in Maharashtra was Rs. 9.45 Crores during 2015-16. It accounted for 10.04% of the total funds released under NAP during 2015-16.

These top 5 states accounted for 54.21% of the total funds released under NAP as a whole during 2015-16.

In Odisha, there was a growth of 177.99% during 2015-16 (Rs. 14.9 Crores) over 2013-14 (Rs. 5.36 Crores) for funds released under NAP. In Chhattisgarh, there was a growth of -52.29% during 2015-16 (Rs. 10.2 Crores) over 2013-14 (Rs. 21.38 Crores) for funds released under NAP. In Mizoram, there was a growth of -14.82% during 2015-16 (Rs. 10.17 Crores) over 2013-14 (Rs. 11.94 Crores) for funds released under NAP. In Punjab, there was a growth of 374.5% during 2015-16 (Rs. 9.49 Crores) over 2013-14 (Rs. 2 Crores) for funds released under NAP. In Maharashtra, there was a growth of -70.77% during 2015-16 (Rs. 9.45 Crores) over 2013-14 (Rs. 32.33 Crores) for funds released under NAP.

Funds released in Haryana under NAP was Rs. 8.54 Crores during 2015-16, which accounted 9.07% of the total funds released during the same period. Funds released in Tripura under NAP was Rs. 5.73 Crores during 2015-16, which accounted 6.09% of the total funds released during the same period. Funds released in Bihar under NAP was Rs. 5.01 Crores during 2015-16, which accounted 5.32% of the total funds released during the same period. Funds released in Manipur under NAP was Rs. 3.67 Crores during 2015-16, which accounted 3.9% of the total funds released during the same period. Funds released in West Bengal under NAP was Rs. 3.05 Crores during 2015-16, which accounted 3.24% of the total funds released during the same period.

The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 80.21% of the total funds released under NAP as a whole during 2015-16.
