Top 10 Languages as per Circulation of Registered Weekly Newspapers in 2013-14

The top 10 languages in terms of the registered weekly newspapers circulation were: Hindi, English, Urdu, Gujarati, Oriya, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali and Punjabi during 2013-14.

The circulation of Hindi Weeklies was 60867 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation increased to 64160 thousands in 2013-14, recording a growth of 3293 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual growth rate was 5.41%. The circulation of English Weeklies was 16436 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation increased to 19216 thousands in 2013-14, recording a growth of 2780 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual growth rate was 16.91%. The circulation of Urdu Weeklies was 4775 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation increased to 5433 thousands in 2013-14, recording a growth of 658 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual growth rate was 13.78%. The circulation of Gujarati Weeklies was 4573 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation increased to 5189 thousands in 2013-14, recording a growth of 616 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual growth rate was 13.47%. The circulation of Oriya Weeklies was 2832 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation decreased to 2615 thousands in 2013-14, recording a decrease of -217 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual decrease was -7.66%.

The circulation of Malayalam Weeklies was 2121 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation increased to 2479 thousands in 2013-14, recording a growth of 358 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual growth rate was 16.88%. The circulation of Marathi Weeklies was 3148 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation decreased to 2384 thousands in 2013-14, recording a decrease of -764 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual decrease was -24.27%. The circulation of Tamil Weeklies was 1740 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation decreased to 1568 thousands in 2013-14, recording a decrease of -172 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual decrease was -9.89%. The circulation of Bengali Weeklies was 1529 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation decreased to 1148 thousands in 2013-14, recording a decrease of -381 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual decrease was -24.92%. The circulation of Punjabi Weeklies was 995 thousands in 2012-13. Their circulation decreased to 784 thousands in 2013-14, recording a decrease of -211 thousands as compared to 2012-13. In percentage terms, the annual decrease was -21.21%.
