State/UT-wise Suicide Victims during 2013

During the year 2013, there were a total of 134799 suicides committed in All India. Out of which, 131830 (97.8%) suicides were committed in States and 2969 (2.2%) suicides were committed in Union Territories.

There were 5 states namely Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka which had contributed greater than 8% each of all India total suicides. In Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka; there were 16622 (12.33%), 16601 (12.32%), 14607 (10.84%), 13055 (9.68%) and 11266 (8.36%) respectively suicides committed.

In Maharashtra, there were 11892 (71.5%) suicides committed by male and 4730 (28.5%) suicides committed by female. In Tamil Nadu, there were 11182 (67.4%) suicides committed by male and 5419 (32.6%) suicides committed by female. In Andhra Pradesh, there were 9902 (67.8%) suicides committed by male and 4705 (32.2%) suicides committed by female. In West Bengal, there were 7860 (60.2%) suicides committed by male and 5195 (39.8%) suicides committed by female. In Karnataka, there were 7733 (68.6%) suicides committed by male and 3533 (31.4%) suicides committed by female.

There were 7 States namely Rajasthan (4860), Odisha (5252), Uttar Pradesh (5286), Chhattisgarh (5436), Gujarat (7166), Kerala (8646) and Madhya Pradesh (9446) which had contributed between 3% to 8% each of all India total suicides. Except above 12 mentioned states rest states had contributed less than 3% each of all India total suicides.
