State/UT wise Number of persons killed in road Accidents per Lakh Population during 2009-2012

During 2012, the number of persons killed in road accidents per lakh of population was highest in Tamil Nadu (23.84), followed by Andhra Pradesh (17.5) in contrast to a low of 2.46 reported by Nagaland. In 2012, highest declination of number of accidents per lakh population has been observed in Sikkim, which has declined by 49% and Maximum increase in number of accidents per lakh population has been observed in Nagaland, which have increased by 95% with respect to 2011. In 2012, Capital saw the lowest-ever accident rate per lakh population in the past few years. Growth in the number of persons killed in road accidents moderated from 5.9 per cent in 2011 to 3.0 per cent during 2012.
