Ministry of Human Resource Development had initiated an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in 2011 to prepare a sound database on Higher Education in the country. The survey covers all the institutions in the country engaged in imparting the higher education. It is getting updated from the annual data submitted by the institutions.
The number of female students availing scholarship for higher education in All India in 2012-2013 was 2317986. The Top 5 State/UTs with the maximum number of female students availing scholarship in 2012-2013 were: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The number of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Maharashtra in 2012-2013 was 408123. Thus, the percentage of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Maharashtra was 17.61% of total female students availing scholarship for higher education in India in 2012-13. The number of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Tamil Nadu in 2012-2013 was 337879. Thus, the percentage of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Tamil Nadu was 14.58% of total female students availing scholarship for higher education in India in 2012-13. The number of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Uttar Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 294978. Thus, the percentage of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Uttar Pradesh was 12.73% of total female students availing scholarship for higher education in India in 2012-13.
The number of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Andhra Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 184674. Thus, the percentage of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Andhra Pradesh was 7.97% of total female students availing scholarship for higher education in India in 2012-13. The number of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Karnataka in 2012-2013 was 180811. Thus, the percentage of female students availing scholarship for higher education in Karnataka was 7.8% of total female students availing scholarship for higher education in India in 2012-13.
