State/UT-wise Suicides in India due to Marriage Related Issues during 2018

There were 8,284 suicides due to marriage related issues in India during 2018, out of which 3,690 (44.54%), 4,594 (55.46%) and 0 (0%) suicides were committed by male, female and transgender persons respectively. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to persons committed suicide due to marriage related issues during 2018 were West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

The number of persons committed suicide due to marriage related issues was 1,354 in West Bengal during 2018, which accounted 16.34% of the total persons committed suicide due to marriage related issues in India. Out of 1,354 suicides in West Bengal; 521 (38.48%) were male, 833 (61.52%) were female and 0 was transgender. There were 979 suicides due to marriage related issues in Madhya Pradesh during 2018. It accounted 11.82% of the total persons committed suicide due to marriage related issues in India during the same period. Out of 979 suicides in Madhya Pradesh; 221 (22.57%), 758 (77.43%) and 0 were male, female and transgender respectively. The number of persons committed suicide due to marriage related issues was 921 in Uttar Pradesh during 2018, which accounted 11.12% of the total persons committed suicide due to marriage related issues in India. Out of 921 suicides in Uttar Pradesh; 277 (30.08%) were male, 644 (69.92%) were female and 0 was transgender.

During 2018, there were 868 and 642 suicides due to marriage related issues in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu respectively. Maharashtra accounted for 10.48% and Tamil Nadu accounted for 7.75% of the total persons committed suicide due to marriage related issues in India during 2018.
