Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) was formulated in July 2014 under overall ambit of National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) with the aim to identify, groom and prepare potential medal prospects for Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Total fund of Rs. 199,613,964 was released by NSDF for TOPS during 2016-17. It has increased by 41.16% to Rs. 281,766,638.1 during 2017-18 (till 26th Dec. 2018) above 2016-17. The top 5 Sports disciplines with respect to funds released by NSDF for TOPS during 2017-18 (till 26th Dec. 2018) were Shooting, Para Sports, Athletics, Archery and Boxing.
Fund released by NSDF for TOPS for Shooting discipline was Rs. 61,492,950 during 2017-18 (till 26th Dec. 2018), up by 50.45% versus Rs. 40,873,059 during 2016-17. We have seen growth of 80.71% in release of fund by NSDF for TOPS for Para Sports discipline from Rs. 24,195,927 during 2016-17 to Rs. 43,724,681 during 2017-18 (up to 26.12.2018). Amount of fund released was Rs. 26,529,755 by NSDF for TOPS for Athletics discipline during 2016-17. It has decreased by -11.49% to Rs. 23,480,606 during 2017-18 (till 26th Dec. 2018).
We have observed growth of 130.5% and 39.88% in release of fund by NSDF for TOPS for Archery discipline and Boxing discipline respectively during 2017-18 (up to 26th Dec. 2018) against 2016-17. Release of fund by NSDF for TOPS for Archery and Boxing discipline was Rs. 23,052,863.15 and Rs. 17,171,880 respectively during 2017-18 (till 26.12.2018).
