Road Accidents in India from 1994 to 2017

Total number of road accidents in India was 325864 during 1994. It has increased by 8.02% to 351999 during 1995 over 1994. Annual growth of 3.62% has been observed in road accidents in India to 405637 during 2001 against 391449 road accidents during 2000. We have seen annual decline of -39 basis points in road accidents in India from 499628 during 2010 to 497686 during 2011. Total number of road accidents in India was 464910 during 2017, down by -3.28% versus 480652 road accidents during 2016.

During the last 5 years from 2013 to 2017, maximum annual growth of 2.46% found in 2015 and minimum annual growth of -4.14% found in 2016 in road accidents in India.

The number of road accidents per lakh of population was 36 in India during 1994. It has surged by 2.1 point to 38.1 during 1995 above 1994. We have seen annual increase of 0.8 point in number of road accidents per lakh of population in India to 39.4 during 2001 against 38.6 during 2000. Annual decrease of -1.4 point has been observed in number of road accidents per lakh of population in India from 42.5 during 2010 to 41.1 during 2011. The number of road accidents per lakh of population was 36.2 in India during 2017, down by -1.7 point versus 37.9 during 2016.

During the last 5 years from 2013 to 2017, maximum road accidents per lakh of population was 40 found in 2015 and minimum road accidents per lakh of population was 36.2 found in 2017 in India.
