Rice and Wheat Wholesale Price Index from April 2015 to March 2016

Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2004-05 as Base Year.

Rice has a weightage of 1.79 in Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The Wholesale Price Index of Rice increased from 234 in the month of April 2015 to 235 in the month of March 2016.  It has shown total increase of 1 point in Wholesale Price Index during the period from April 2015 to March 2016. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index of Rice during this period; ranging from minimum of 234 points in the month of April 2015 to maximum of 238.9 points in the month of January 2016. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Rice during this period was 236.74 points.

Wheat has a weightage of 1.12 in Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The Wholesale Price Index of Wheat increased from 216.1 in the month of April 2015 to 222 in the month of March 2016.  It has shown total increase of 5.9 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from April 2015 to March 2016. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index of Wheat during this period; ranging from minimum of 210.8 points in the month of Jun 2015 to maximum of 228.6 points in the month of January 2016. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Wheat during this period was 218.33 points.
