Residential Certificates issued in Kohima Smart City (2016 – 2019)

July 31, 2019

The residential certificate is a certificate issued by the authority of State Government/Union Territory to certify that the person bearing the certificate is a resident of State/Union Territory to whom the certificate is issued. Such certificate is issued as proof of residence to avail domicile quota in educational institutions and in the State/Central Government services. We managed to get the data of these kind of certificates issued in Kohima Smart City and visualized it using the Visualization Engine (https://visualize.data.gov.in/).

The ward wise data of the number of residential certificates issued in Kohima Smart City was plotted for the years 2016 – 17, 2017 – 18 and 2018 – 19. The graph is shown along with this post.

For Kohima smart city, we see a reduction in the number of residence certificates issued from 2016 – 17 to 2018 – 19. By seeing the visualization one can come to the conclusion that the number of residential certificates issued are getting restricted by the issuing authority. On our internal discussion within the department it was discovered that most number of certificates were issued in 2016, which is near the period when the Prime Minister Housing Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) came into action.

The majority of the Residential Certificate application were to avail the benefits of this housing scheme by the citizens of Kohima. This give us an insight that the application of residential certificates or any other such certificates would be high when a newly launched government scheme asks for it. The departments could then gear up in advance for provision of these certificates when confronted with a high demand.

This was just a simple instance to show that upon visualizing data and asking the right questions we can reach to the root cause of an occurrence.
