The total number of registered motor vehicles in India was 210023289 as on 31.03. 2015. There were 7 states having more than 10000000 registered motor vehicles viz. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as on 31.03. 2015.

The number of registered motor vehicles in Maharashtra was 25562175 as on 31.03. 2015. It had a share of 12.17% in the total number of registered motor vehicles in India as on 31.03. 2015.

The number of registered motor vehicles in Tamil Nadu was 22518669 as on 31.03. 2015. It had a share of 10.72% in the total number of registered motor vehicles in India as on 31.03. 2015.
