Place of Occurrence-wise Property Stolen Cases Reported and its Value during 2016

During 2016, total number of property stolen cases reported in India was 641851 with property value of Rs. 7753 crores. In terms of Place of Occurrence; Residential Premises has the maximum number of property stolen cases reported i.e., 220854 (34.41%) during 2016, followed by Other Places, Highways/Road, Commercial Establishments, Running Trains, Religious Places, Bank, ATM, and River and Sea. The stolen property value at Residential Premises was Rs. 1475 crores during 2016.

The number of property stolen cases reported was 165541 (25.79%) at Other Places during 2016 with property value of Rs. 4555.5 crores. The number of property stolen cases reported was 143395 (22.34%) at Highways/Road during 2016 with property value of Rs. 960.3 crores. Property stolen cases reported was 63361, 39558, 5633, 1314, 1113 and 1082 at Commercial Establishments, Running Trains, Religious Places, Bank, ATM, and River and Sea respectively during 2016. The stolen property value at Commercial Establishments, Running Trains, Religious Places, Bank, ATM, and River and Sea was Rs. 519.7 crores, Rs. 97.6 crores, Rs. 89.7 crores, Rs. 29.8 crores, Rs. 10.8 crores, Rs. 14.4 crores respectively during 2016.

Note: Value of Property are in Rs. Crores; Data Inludes Cases of Theft, Criminal Tresspass, Robbery & Dacoity only. However, Other Cases like Chain Snatching (11785 Cases), Snatching (9539 Cases) & Other Properties (7964 Cases) are excluded (covered in Other IPC Crimes); Detailed State-wise information available on NCRB Website.
