Persons Injured in Road Accidents on National Highways from 2015 to 2018

The number of persons injured in road accidents on National Highways (NHs) in India was 1,40,622 during 2018, down by -140 basis points against 1,42,622 during 2017.

The top 5 States/UTs with respect to persons injured in road accidents on NHs during 2018 were Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.

The number of persons injured in road accidents on NHs in Tamil Nadu was 25,268 in 2017. It has decreased by -4.95% to 24,016 during 2018 above 2017. Annual decline of -4.29% has been observed in persons injured in road accidents on NHs in Karnataka from 17,242 during 2017 to 16,503 during 2018. The number of persons injured in road accidents on NHs in Uttar Pradesh was 10,912 during 2018, up by 6.65% versus 10,232 during 2017. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh accounted for 17.08%, 11.74% and 7.76% respectively of the total persons injured in road accidents on NHs in India during 2018.

During 2018, there were 10,461 and 10,055 persons injured in road accidents on NHs in Kerala and Madhya Pradesh respectively. We have seen annual growth of 4.71% in persons injured in road accidents on NHs in Kerala and decline of -13.44% in persons injured in road accidents on NHs in Madhya Pradesh during 2018 above 2017.
