Incidence of murder committed against children during 2013

The 10 States/UTs with highest incidence of murder committed against children during 2013 were: Uttar Pradesh (482); Maharashtra (191); Madhya Pradesh (114); Bihar (101); Andhra Pradesh (87); Tamil Nadu (83); Gujarat (77); Haryana (73); West Bengal (68) and Karnataka (64). There was no incidence of murder of children in 8 States/UTs. These States/UTs were: Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep and Puducherry. However, these States/UTs have only small chunk of the population of the entire country.

In case of entire India, total incidence of murder committed against children during 2013 was 1657. Uttar Pradesh accounts for 482 murders which is 29.09% of the total 1657 murders in the entire country; Maharashtra accounts for 191 murders which is 11.53% of the total 1657 murders in the entire country and Madhya Pradesh accounts for 114 murders which is 6.88% of the total 1657 murders in the entire country. Thus, these 3 states accounted for 47.5% of total number of 1657 murder of children across the country. However, it has to be kept in mind that these states also account for the large chunk of the population of the entire country.
