Worldwide Open Government Data is the backbone for many innovations. In India since 2012 Open Government Data (OGD) Platform has played a vital role in promoting transparency and innovation.
With its community engagement model many innovative Apps, Info-graphs, Reports, Videos, etc. have been developed using Open Data published on the platform.
To showcase the potential of open data, OGD Platform has recently released an Android mobile application – HospitalWay. This is one of its kind Hospital locator App. It will help users to search all nearby Hospitals/Health Centres/Clinics from the current mobile GPS location. Users can also search Allopathic, Homeopathy, Ayurveda and other hospitals all over India.
To deal an emergency, the App has a unique feature. Users can choose two mobile numbers as their emergency contact and an alert message can be sent to both the numbers in a crisis situation on click of a button. National Hospital Directory Open Data from Health Sector shared by National Health Portal, NIHFW, M/o Health and Family Welfare on OGD Platform, has been used in the App.
As the Government Open Data License (GODL) is in place, the App is in-compliance with the terms and conditions of the License.
The App is designed and developed by the Open Government Data (OGD) Platform Division of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), MeitY.
