Fund Released under Smart Cities Mission during 2015-16 to 2019-20

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) facilitates and assists States/Union Territories (UTs), through ‘smart cities mission’ to improve urban infrastructure and enhance the quality of life in cities and towns covered under the mission. Smart cities mission was launched with a total central government outlay of Rs. 48,000 crore for developing 100 cities as smart cities.

Total fund of Rs. 18,614.1 crore was released under smart cities mission in India during 2015-16 to 2019-20; out of which Rs. 1,469.2, 4,492.5, 4,499.5, 5,856.8 and 2,296.1 crore was released from 2015-16 to 2019-20 respectively. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to central funds released under smart cities mission during 2015-16 to 2019-20 were Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

Fund released under smart cities mission was Rs. 2,165.6 crore to Tamil Nadu during 2015-16 to 2019-20, which accounted 11.63% of the total fund released under smart cities mission in India. There was release of Rs. 1,955 crore for Madhya Pradesh under smart cities mission during 2015-16 to 2019-20. It accounted 10.5% of the total fund released under smart cities mission in India during the same period. The amount of Rs. 1,670 crore was released under smart cities mission to Maharashtra during 2015-16 to 2019-20, which accounted 8.97% of the total fund released under smart cities mission in India. There were 12, 7 and 10 selected cities from Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra respectively under smart cities mission during the period under consideration.

During 2015-16 to 2019-20, there was release of Rs. 1,576 crore and Rs. 1,422 crore for Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh respectively under smart cities mission. Gujarat accounted for 8.47% and Uttar Pradesh accounted for 7.64% of the total fund released under smart cities mission in India during 2015-16 to 2019-20. The number of cities selected under smart cities mission was 6 from Gujarat and 13 from Uttar Pradesh during the period under consideration.
