Financial Position of Indian Railways during 2007-13

The Eleventh Plan period has seen steady deterioration in Railway’s financial position which is in sharp contrast with the Tenth Plan performance when the Railway’s had achieved a remarkable turnaround in financial performance. During 2007-13, Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of Revenue (Gross Traffic Receipts) was 16.6 %. During this period, revenue increased by 84.8% from Rs. 71720 crore in 2007-08 to Rs. 132552 crore in 2012-13.

CAGR of Total Working Expenses was 19.9% during 2007-13. During this period, Expenses increased by 106.4% from Rs. 54462 crore in 2007-08 to Rs. 112400 crore in 2012-13. During 2007-13, CAGR of Net Revenue was increased by 4.9%. During this period, revenue increased by 21.3% from Rs. 18334 crore in 2007-08 to Rs. 22233 crore in 2012-13.
