Expenditure of the Indian Government from 2000-01 to 2015-16

The expenditure of the Government of India is classified under two major categories viz. Plan Expenditure and Non-Plan Expenditure.

The Plan Expenditure of the Government of India was Rs. 82669 crores during the year 2000-01. It increased to Rs. 465277 crores during the year 2015-16 (BE) showing an increase of Rs. 382608 crores during the period from 2000-01 to 2015-16. In percentage terms, the overall growth was 462.82% during the period. The annual rate of growth in percentage terms was 30.85% during the period from 2000-01 to 2015-16.

The Non-Plan Expenditure of the Government of India was Rs. 242923 crores during the year 2000-01. It increased to Rs. 1312200 crores during the year 2015-16 (BE) showing an increase of Rs. 1069277 crores during the period from 2000-01 to 2015-16. In percentage terms, the overall growth was 440.17% during the period. The annual rate of growth in percentage terms was 29.34% during the period from 2000-01 to 2015-16.

The Total expenditure of the Government of India was Rs. 325592 crores during the year 2000-01. It increased to Rs. 1777477 crores during the year 2015-16 (BE) showing an increase of Rs. 1451885 crores during the period from 2000-01 to 2015-16. In percentage terms, the overall growth was 445.92% during the period. The annual rate of growth in percentage terms was 29.73% during the period from 2000-01 to 2015-16.
