Number of medium and large industrial units established in the state has increased steadily over the years, however the noted growth has been observed only after 2004-05. This growth has resulted out of the efforts of the state government for promoting industrialization in the state following the adoption of ‘New Industrial Policy-2004’. However, employment offered by these units and capital investment done in these units shows abrupt trends in past 10 years.
Compared to 2004-05, in the year 2005-06, there was only one unit short, but the drop in employment was by 53.5%, and capital investment also declined by Rs. 18395 lakh. On the other hand, 2006-07 turned out to be a better year despite the number of units being reduced to just 10; it had offered employment to the tune of 1819 and showed 13% growth in capital investment. 2007-08 remarked tremendous growth in employment which was 127.1% compared to 2006-07 and showed 172.6% in investment. Sharp decline had seen in investment and employment during year 2008-09 i.e. capital investment declined 66.9% and employment declined 68.3% compared to 2007-08. Tremendous growth seen in year 2009-10, investment increased from 49223.24 lakh (2008-09) to 141387.06 lakh that showed 187.2% of growth and employment gained 260.2% of growth.
Year 2010-11 remarked declination in investment and employment compared to previous year, drop in employment was 19.7% and drop in capital investment was 59.8%. Year 2011-12 remarked biggest growth in investment and bit of in employment compared to all previous year, growth in employment was 3.2% and biggest growth in capital investment that was 2302.9%. Again year 2012-13 came out with decline of 93.7% in investment and 37.4% in employment as compared to previous year. Year 2013-14 remarked tremendous growth over previous year 2012-13, capital investment was 1270923.47 lakh which was 1373.8% of 2012-13 and employment was 5207 which was 112.6% of year 2012-13. Year 2013-14 has highest growth in investment in overall decade and Year 2009-10 has highest growth in employment. Overall 3288128.76 lakh investment has been made in Madhya Pradesh and generated 31665 employment with 173 number of Large and Medium scale industries.
