Enterprise Challenge
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) wished to set up a spatial platform aimed at providing an interface to represent visually key performance indicators (KPIs) for each department on city map. The primary concerns were non-availability of relevant data and lack of appropriate visualization tools. This, in the past, has attributed to uninformed decision making in several planning projects. This also accounted for lack of GIS record of city-wide PMC assets. Activities like planning road network, laying out water pipelines, setting up sensors in the city was working in silos with no distributed collaboration. Thus, resulting in duplication of work and increase of public expenditure. Such data representations if visualized systematically, can help in effective and optimized planning of the initiatives.
Impact of data driven approach to address challenge
Development of the end-to-end data management and analytics model for the city is driven by data generated through departmental processes through enterprise GIS system. PMC is building a robust, reliable and futuristic Enterprise GIS platform, aimed at integrating the GIS data and other IT applications at the corporation. A decision support and planning system for stakeholders at various levels in the PMC, having 300+ departmental layers like amenity spaces, property building polygons, city projects, city road and drainage plan and etc. The platform also extends 50+ citizen-centric layers like city landmarks, heritage sites, hospital locations, school locations and etc.
