Employment in Oil & Gas Central Public Sector Enterprises during 2016-17

The number of manpower employed was 110058 in Oil & Gas Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) during 2016-17. Out of these 110058 employments during 2016-17; 59974 (54.5%) employment was for Executive/Managerial level, 9988 (9.1%) employment was for Supervisory level, 5350 (4.9%) employment was for Clerical level and 34746 (31.6%) employment was for Workmen level.

The top 3 CPSEs in terms of manpower employed during 2016-17 were ONGC with 33660 (30.6%), IOCL with 33135 (30.1%) and BPCL with 12479 (11.3%) followed by HPCL, OIL, GAIL, EIL, MRPL, CPCL, Balmer Lawrie, NRL and Biecco Lawrie with 10422, 7228, 4355, 2939, 1911, 1645, 1188, 870 and 226 employment respectively.

We have observed CPSEs like EIL, GAIL, ONGC and HPCL in which employment for Executive/Managerial level is more than 50% of the total manpower employed in individual CPSEs during 2016-17. The number of manpower employed for Executive/Managerial level was 2697 (91.8%), 3466 (79.6%), 21996 (65.3%) and 5858 (56.2%) in EIL, GAIL, ONGC and HPCL respectively during 2016-17.

We have seen CPSEs like EIL and GAIL in which employment for Workmen level is less than 15% of the total manpower employed in individual CPSEs during 2016-17. The number of manpower employed for Workmen level was 3 (0.1%) and 515 (11.8%) in EIL and GAIL respectively during 2016-17.
