To reduce dependence on imported diesel fuel and carbon emission, Indian Railways have already embarked upon a major programme to speed up electrification of Railway lines. Electrification of Indian Railway Route was 75 kilometers in 2010-11. It has increased by 693.3% to 595 kilometers during 2011-12 above 2010-11. We have seen annual decline of -54.4% in electrification of Indian Railway lines to 610 kilometers during 2013-14 versus 1337 kilometers during 2012-13.
Annual growth of 9.6% has been observed in electrification of Indian Railway lines during 2016-17 from 1502 kilometers during 2015-16. Electrification of Indian Railway Route was 4087 kilometers during 2017-18, up by 148.3% against 1646 kilometers during 2016-17.
