Educational Status of Suicide Victims during 2013

During the year 2013, there were a total of 134799 suicides committed in All India. Out of which 90543 (67.2%) suicides were committed by male and 44256 (32.8%) suicides were committed by female.

As per Education point of view, top 3 Education groups were Middle, Primary and Matriculate/Secondary Schooling people who had committed highest number of suicides i.e. 31774 (23.6%), 29824 (22.1%) and 27596 (20.5%) respectively. Thus each group contributed more than 20% of All India suicides.

In Middle Education group, there were 21679 suicides committed by male and 10095 suicides committed by female. In Primary Education group, there were 19502 suicides committed by male and 10322 suicides committed by female. In Matriculate/Secondary Education group, there were 19416 suicides committed by male and 8180 suicides committed by female.

Bottom 3 Education groups were Post Graduate and Above, Diploma and Graduate people who had committed lowest number of suicides i.e. 716 (0.5%), 1656 (1.2%) and 4380 (3.2%) respectively. Thus each group contributed less than 5% of All India suicides. In Post Graduate and Above Education group, there were 509 suicides committed by male and 207 suicides committed by female. In Diploma Education group, there were 1204 suicides committed by male and 452 suicides committed by female. In Graduate Education group, there were 3110 suicides committed by male and 1270 suicides committed by female.
Apart from the above 6 mentioned Education groups, 2 other groups were namely No Education and Hr. secondary/Intermediate/Pre-University which had committed total 25004 (18.5%) and 13849 (10.3%) suicides respectively.
