There were 1,255,786 doctors registered with medical councils in India as on 30th June 2020. The top 5 states with respect to doctors registered with medical councils in India as on 30-06-2020 were Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The number of doctors registered with medical council of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh was 188540, 148216, 130698, 102924 and 84560 respectively as on 30.06.2020.

Note: Source: RAJYA SABHA SESSION – 252 UNSTARRED QUESTION No 236; The other States / UTs do not have their own Medical Registration Council. Hence, their doctors get registration with the Councils of other neighbouring States; *: 52666 doctors were registered only with MCI.
