Distribution of Surface Flow Schemes from 2001-02 to 2006-07 – 4th Minor Irrigation Census

The data refers to state wise construction of surface flow schemes over the year from 2001-02 to 2006-07, which is based on 4th Minor Irrigation Census (2006-07), conducted after a gap of 5 to 7 years. The number of Surface Flow Schemes constructed during various years from 2001-02 to 2006-07, has been fluctuating widely. The number of Surface Flow Schemes constructed was 47249 in 2001-02 but declined to 14277 in 2002-03. It was 14133 in 2003-04, 13191 in 2004-05, 11595 in 2005-06 and thereafter increased to 15600 in 2006-07.

In value terms, accordingly, the cost of Surface Flow Schemes constructed during various years from 2001-02 to 2006-07, has been fluctuating widely. The cost of Surface Flow Schemes constructed was Rs.5262518102 in 2001-02 but declined to Rs.1692017808 in 2002-03. It was Rs. 1946290414 in 2003-04, Rs. 1998991447 in 2004-05, Rs. 2963582698 in 2005-06 and increased to Rs. 3196013478 in 2006-07. Thus, during 2005-06 to 2006-07, the number of Surface Flow Schemes constructed and investments (cost incurred) have shown some improvement.

The maximum number of Surface Flow Schemes i.e. 4763 were constructed in Jharkhand during 2006-07 at the cost of Rs. 722959817 (22.62%), which was 30.53% of the total number of projects i.e. 15600 (Rs. 3196013478) in all the states put together.
