Crime, in literal terms, is an action violating the given set of rules. A crime is punishable on the account of its severity and its extent. It is defined specifically on the premise of civilisation and bound to act upon it.

For the following study, the case considered for crime analysis is India. India is a diverse nation which is the 7th largest nation in the world in terms of area. A detailed analysis of crime and its various aspects helps to determine the crime rate. Crime in India is reported by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The NCRB collects and evaluates the data and on the basis of which, comparison is made subsequently. The crime in India is accounted in various forms chiefly; Robbery, Rape, Dowry, Extortion, Kidnapping, Sex Violations etc. There are horrendous cases of Organised Crimes as well, like Illegal Drug Trade and Arms Trafficking. Recent trends in crime, gives a new aspect also known as Cyber Crime. On the whole the major target of this analysis is for Robbery and Rape.

Considering India, a total of 36 states and union territories, taken altogether, ranks high in crime rate. The major crime analysis is for Robbery and Rape. Of total 36 given, the least crime rate for Robbery is for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. All these states on an average accounts for less than 50 robberies each in a year. The middle section goes for Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The worst cases, i.e, 100+ in each cases are for Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala. Of all considered states, there are few exemplary states which have almost nil robberies include Manipur, Mizoram, J&K, HP and Sikkim. The worst individual cases account for states of Uttar Pradesh, MP and Tamilnadu. All the data reported are from 2013 NCRB report.

Let’s have a look at rape scenarios in world’s largest democratic country. First and foremost, Rape Crime is the alarming issue throughout but India is hit hard by it. As per the report by NCRB, the states which are hit the hardest in terms of Rape crimes are Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chattisgarh and West Bengal. These states account on an average for more than 400 rape crimes in 2013. On the lighter note, the states of Bihar, HP, Gujarat, Karnataka, Odisha, AP and Assam account each on case ranging from 100-300 in year 2013. Still on a lighter note, The states of J&K , Arunachal Pradesh, Pudducherry, GOA, Nagaland, and Meghalaya almost set an example to follow with less than 50 crimes each on an average. Although, it is not acceptable until, the crime minimises to a nil value, but as compared with heavily charged states of UP and MP with more than 1100+ rape victims, these states are sure to be crowned the least violent.
