Consumption of Heavy End Petroleum Products from 2015-16 to 2017-18

July 23, 2020

We have observed compound annual growth rate of 10.84% in consumption of total heavy end petroleum products during 2011-12 to 2017-18. Consumption of total heavy end petroleum products was 46,074 thousand tonnes during 2017-18, up by 4.44% against 44,114 thousand tonnes during 2016-17. Heavy end petroleum products namely Furnace Oil (FO), Low Sulphur Heavy Stocks (LSHS), Lubes/Greases, Bitumen, Petroleum Coke, Waxes and others were consumed during 2011-12 to 2017-18. Out of total consumption of heavy end petroleum products during 2017-18; FO, LSHS, Lubes/Greases, Bitumen, Petroleum Coke, Waxes and other petroleum products had weight of 14.42%, 0.25%, 8.2%, 13.03%, 56.85%, 0.55% and 6.69% respectively.

Consumption of FO products was 7,046 thousand tonnes in 2016-17. It has tanked by -5.71% to 6,644 thousand tonnes during 2017-18 above 2016-17. We have found annual growth of 11.54% in consumption of LSHS products from 104 thousand tonnes during 2016-17 to 116 thousand tonnes during 2017-18. Consumption of lube/grease products was 3,779 thousand tonnes during 2017-18, up by 8.9% versus 3,470 thousand tonnes during 2016-17.

Annual growth of 115 basis points has been seen in consumption of bitumen products from 5,936 thousand tonnes during 2016-17 to 6,004 thousand tonnes during 2017-18. Consumption of petroleum coke products was 23,964 thousand tonnes in 2016-17. It has increased by 9.3% to 26,192 thousand tonnes during 2017-18 above 2016-17.

We have observed annual growth of 39.56% and -9.59% in consumption of waxes and other petroleum products respectively during 2017-18 against 2016-17. Consumption of waxes was 254 thousand tonnes and other petroleum products was 3,084 thousand tonnes in 2017-18.
