The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been supporting projects for research, design and development in various Research, Development & Demonstration (RD&D)/academic institutions, industries, etc. in the field of solar, wind, biogas, biofuel, Hydrogen, Fuel Cells, geothermal, etc. for technology development and demonstration leading to commercialization. In addition, the MNRE has established three institutes, namely National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) and National Institute of Bio Energy (NIBE) for carrying out RD&D, testing and evaluation in solar, wind and bioenergy respectively.
Budget Allocated was Rs. 131.89 crore on RD&D projects during 2014-15. It has decreased by -36.35% during 2015-16 over 2014-15. Budget Allocated was Rs. 126.25 crore on RD&D projects during 2016-17, up by 50.39% from Rs. 83.95 crore during 2015-16.
Expenditure incurred was Rs. 131.39 crore on RD&D projects during 2014-15. It has decreased by -37.53% during 2015-16 over 2014-15. Expenditure incurred was Rs. 94.19 crore on RD&D projects during 2016-17, up by 14.75% from Rs. 82.08 crore during 2015-16.
The top 3 Subject Areas in terms of maximum budget allocated on RD&D projects during 2016-17 were Solar, NISE, and Hydrogen and Fuel Cells with Rs. 60 crore, Rs. 29.35 crore and Rs. 15.25 crore respectively. The top 3 Subject Areas in terms of maximum expenditure incurred on RD&D projects during 2016-17 were Solar, NIWE and NISE with Rs. 45.44 crore, Rs. 25 crore and Rs. 7 crore respectively.
