Prices of petrol and diesel have been made market-determined by the Government of India with effect from 26.06.2010 and 19.10.2014 respectively. Since then, the Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) take appropriate decision on pricing of petrol and diesel in line with international product prices and other market conditions. The prices of petroleum products are linked to the price of respective products in the international market. Oil Marketing Companies take a decision on retail selling price after considering various aspects including international product prices, exchange rate, tax structure, inland freight and other cost elements.
Average petrol price in Kolkata was Rs. 72.13 per litre in January, 2019. It has surged by Rs. 0.81 to Rs. 72.94 per litre during Feb-2019 against Jan-2019. We have seen monthly decline of Rs. -1.33 in average petrol price in Kolkata during Jun-2019 from Rs. 74.00 per litre during May-2019. Average petrol price in Kolkata was Rs. 74.13 per litre in Jul-2019 (till 12.7.2019), up by Rs. 1.46 per litre versus Rs. 72.67 per litre during Jun-2019.
Average diesel price in Kolkata was Rs. 66.04 per litre in Jan-2019. It has spiked by Rs. 1.75 to Rs. 67.79 per litre during Feb-2019 against Jan-2019. Monthly decrease of Rs. -1.80 has been observed in average diesel price in Kolkata during Jun-2019 from Rs. 68.14 per litre during May-2019. Average diesel price in Kolkata was Rs. 67.54 per litre in Jul-2019 (till 12.7.2019), up by Rs. 1.20 per litre versus Rs. 66.34 per litre during Jun-2019.
The maximum increase of Rs. 1.68 has been found in Mar-2019 in average petrol price in Kolkata during the period under consideration. The maximum increase of Rs. 1.75 has been seen in Feb-2019 in average diesel price in Kolkata during the period under consideration.
